The idea for our brick-and-mortar on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland grew from Altana’s desire to create an in person jewelry studio that was a true feast for the senses. We imagined a space that would feel as inviting and inspiring as the jewelry itself. It is a thoughtful departure from the cold, intimidating atmosphere that has historically defined so many jewelry stores.
When clients step into our urban sanctuary, we want you to feel immediately welcomed by the warmth of the space, its people, and its art. We invite you to explore our offerings with curiosity and to experience the shop not as bystanders, but as participants. A place to wander, discover, enjoy, and connect.
At the heart of the design of our urban sanctuary is the idea of the juxtaposition between the refined and the raw. It’s what the whole space is about.
It’s about taking something precious and flawless and placing it alongside something rough and unprocessed, seeing the beauty in everyday objects and fine art alike, and rethinking what we value and what we choose to give space. Rather than looking for perfection, we want to inspire people to look for what's interesting.
At Altana Fine Jewelry, you'll find everyday, accessible jewelry alongside special occasion treasures. We aim to feature small artists with unique styles, with a special focus on voices that have been traditionally underrepresented in the jewelry field.
With artisans and small-scale production as a lynchpin of our store, what we offer is intentionally different from what you might find in a traditional jewelry store. We're drawn to the mark of the hand and the character it brings to a piece, rather than the uniformity of perfectly produced, mass-market jewelry.
We hope the shop does more than simply sell beautiful jewelry. We want it to provoke conversation, inspire curiosity, and create a sense of community. A place where people can discover something new, see something from a different perspective, and feel at home while doing so.
